Have you started dreading Mondays? Always longing for the weekend? This doesn’t mean you don’t love your job. It might mean you’re experiencing burnout – one of the top 5 Blocks you’ll experience in life.

Burnout happens even to the best of us. You need to stay on top of it to continue your path in your career. Read on to find the 7 ways to simplify your life when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

What is Burnout

Burnout arises from long-term stress. It is a state of physical, mental, and emotional weariness. You may have trouble performing even the simplest daily activities. You feel drained and overwhelmed. Overwhelm/Burnout signs can vary from person to person. These include:

  • Feeling always tired and disengaged
  • Losing motivation most of the time
  • Checking how much time is left before work ends
  • Snapping at your colleagues often
  • Thinking there isn’t sufficient time for everything

How to Simplify Your Life

When people start to feel burnout, they think about taking a vacation. While it is helpful, a vacation is just a short-term solution. The relief you’re going to feel will only be temporary and you’ll dread going home. You need strategies that will help you for a long time.

1.      Take Breaks Regularly

You may think that getting the job done in one go is more productive. A lot of workaholics tend to think this way. Do the opposite. It may seem backward but you need to step away every once in a while. Regardless of whether it’s at home or work, take that break. Your mind and body need to refuel too.

2.      Schedule Free Time

Now that you’re starting to give yourself a break, schedule when you will take it. This is especially helpful if you find it difficult to begin. Allot at least half an hour a day and see how you’ll accomplish more than if you worked straight.

3.      Exercise

Exercise comes with a lot of benefits. One of them is giving you increased energy and productivity. Get up earlier or do your exercises during lunchtime. Plus, exercising regularly promotes a good night’s sleep.

4.      Meditate

Spend time breathing in the afternoon. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes daily. It will keep you sharp and fresh and can be powerful throughout.

5.      Find a Hobby

Find something you’re passionate about. It doesn’t have to be something big, just a thing you’d want to do to release stress. It can be pottery, basketball, knitting – anything that will get you recharged every day.

6.      Find Harmony

Battling burnouts goes more than just finding your work-life balance. It is also about finding harmony at work. Get connected to your team, find out what they are also passionate about.

7.      Live with Mindfulness

Have a constant focus on mindfulness, not just on vacations or breaks. When you work out or meditate, be mindful of those moments. Detach in a way that’s best for you.

Identifying burnout and learning how to avoid it will do good for your productivity, motivation, and mental health. When you feel overwhelmed, it affects your life as a whole.
