Shirley Thiessen’s life looks nothing like the one she had planned for. She is the author of “The Little Black Funeral Dress”, a speaker, founder of a non-profit, CornerBend Ministries, and grief educator.
Twelve days after her son’s wedding, Shirley was thrown into the unimaginable task of planning his funeral. Grief threatened to extinguish her hope. Empathetic friends helped to fortify her resolve towards resiliency. Gradually hope returned as Shirley chose to participate with God to recycle her pain for good purposes.
Shirley provides a playbook of best practices for those who feel uncertain how to support their grieving friends. When empathy is expressed, no one is left to grieve alone and hope grows.
